Thursday morning, we left as early as we could driving through Indiana (6) for Ann Arbor, Michigan (7) to visit the home we lived in 22 years ago! It was a shame the current owners weren’t home, but it was cool to see. Doug, who actually has memories from then, was rather giddy about reliving those memories.
Then, it was off to Kirtland, Ohio (8). In the morning, we visited the Kirtland Temple and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Visitor’s Center.
This is the first time I’ve visited any LDS Church history sites and it was a much more neat experience than I had anticipated. The temple especially was wonderful. Having studied much about, which engendered a deep respect for, the Prophet Joseph Smith, it was powerful to look at a place he preach such powerful words from and to envision that day of dedication.
It was also powerful to be at the Visitors Center amongst a place of so much sacrifice. It help me to reflect on how Brandon and I are living and to think about how we could sacrifice more, dedicate more to the work of the Lord. I really appreciate the Church for preserving such sites.
